sin verite Pre-production

Summary

After years of self imposed exile, actress Abby LaMarche, a talented yet temperamental performer, decides to climb back into the world of independent film, which she left because of her conflict driven personality. Abby replies to a couple of casting notices, and is surprised to learn that first time director Mitchell Marroquin, a witness to one of her legendary on set tantrums, is willing to give her a shot at being in his new movie despite the reputation she carries. Abby also reconnects with her old acting teacher, the egocentric Francis Vigneri, a renowned presence within the acting community.

All of this good fortune is threatened, however, when Abby inadvertently crosses paths with a man known only as The Catalyst - the charismatic, volatile leader of a troupe of underground thespians who shun film acting. Preferring to practice their craft in real life situations where anything can happen and nothing is what it seems. Intrigued, Abby divides her time between the movie, which is in the pre-production/rehearsal phase, and the rogue acting group, and the freedom of participating in the Catalyst's exciting yet dangerous scenarios which becomes intoxicating to her. But, as The Catalyst's grip on her psyche tightens, Abby's perfectionism and prickliness threaten to get her fired from the movie before it can begin filming. Francis, concerned for his best student, starts to suspect that Abby is slipping back into bad habits.

Meanwhile, The Catalyst pushes Abby and the rest of his actors into darker territory, forcing them to participate in life threatening excursions of guerrilla acting to satisfy his twisted theories about the craft. Abby realizes that the Catalyst will stop at nothing, even death, to pursue and express his creativity, and she ultimately must either choose to escape his grip to maintain her life and sanity, or stay true to her creative impulses, even if that decision leads her straight into the abyss.
